Medical Quack Employs a Kanine Office Manager–Best Thing I Ever Did (Video-Humor)
Every once in a while time for a break and today seemed like a good time to 
introduce all to my office manager, Max. He’s very talented and keeps on schedule and gives all the hugs and attention any healthcare blogger could ask for:)
It seems only appropriate that the critters all hang together around here and he’s really the boss and takes “office surfing” seriously while I do the surfing on the web and I just wish he was a better spell checker but you can’t have everything. He also has a fascination with aviation too when he’s not busy pulling his “duck” around in his little red wagon:)

Extormity to Federal Health IT Leaders - "Take a Chill Pill, Fellas"
This is funny and we all like the Extormity humor but not too long ago I remember Sean over at HealthVault posting a blog post saying the same thing…you have done a good job so now take a break, but Extormity folks have the humor going for sure.
I do have to say as well I would laugh more at this if I didn’t agree as well:) We 
know technology works but since all of this kicked into high gear with the Obama administration, things got a lot more complicated, very quickly too, so yeah guys take that chill pill and give the CIOs and others a chance to catch up a bit as they need it, either that or start working in a little more compassion as the cheerleading phase has passed a while back and now folks are just trying to figure out how to do all that is on their plate and quit telling developers they are going to get rich, they may make a lot of money but cool down on the rich speeches as right now on the consumer side we have gluts of software in healthcare that nobody uses and way too much duplication without collaboration.

Brantley Whittington, fictional CEO of make-believe electronic health record vendor Extormity, is urging Aneesh Chopra, Farzad Mostashari and Todd Park to tone down their optimism and exuberance about the clinical benefits and cost savings associated with implementing health information technology.
Whittington, speaking to reporters from the offices of a K Street lobbying firm in Washington, D.C., expressed dismay at the unbridled enthusiasm exhibited by White House, ONC and HHS officials. "For years, vendors like Extormity have worked hard to cultivate a healthcare IT culture that combines complexity with closed-mindedness, creating a pervasive and stifling sense of futility."
"Instead of the sober and staid leadership we are accustomed to, these gentlemen are inspiring new models of industry development," added Whittington. "The Direct Project is a great example of supercharged public/private collaboration designed to simplify the flow of health information without spending a dime of taxpayer money. This may benefit patients and providers, but the lack of convoluted infrastructure does little for the Extormity bottom line."
"While I have been known to muster up some counterfeit fervor for shareholder meetings, the consistent passion and zeal demonstrated by these officials is proving disruptive to those of us dedicated to proprietary and expensive solutions," added Whittington. "I suggest dialing back the levels on the gusto meter to preserve the status quo, stifle meaningful innovation and ensure consistent and sizable returns to a handful of large healthcare IT vendors."

This is good now that Bloomberg news broke open the real facts on TARP. Jon Stewart in his usual style gets right to the point. It’s all about the math, who’s math, who’s algorithms and which ones were created for “Accurate” results and who created and used those for “Desired” results…well let me guess…It’s all about those algos and time for consumers to take an interest in algorithms and math as there’s a ton of marketing in a lot of that is doing it’s best to convince you that 2 plus 2= 5. I think I know some of those “snowed over” believers walking around out there today and I read about a lot of them that work for the government too:)
Abortions are about the only topic in healthcare today that gets much play from the digital illiterates on the Hill.

Meaningful Use EMRs Gilbert and Sullivan Style…”I am the Model User of an EMR That’s Meaningful…”
This is cute…but some real stuff in here to think about too. We have an EMR model but do we have a doctor mixed in here too, I hope so:)
If you think electronic medical records are getting easier…ask your doctor. The medical records systems themselves are not that difficult but when you add the payables on, the US has a problem like no other country as we are the only ones who tie ICD coding to payments with revenue cycling. Meaningful Use EMR
I am the model user of an EMR that's meaningful
My patient's information is computerized and digital
Each visit note and test result is easily retrievable
With speed and accuracy that is almost inconceivable! 
It's shared by every health provider who should need to see it all
And yet it's safely kept behind a well-protected firewall
If somebody should hack into it that would be a federal crime
And if I share my password it's for sure I'll do some prison time
The demographic information I collect may seem absurd
There's date of birth, race, gender, ethnic group and languages preferred.
In short, in matters medical, computerized and digital
I am the model user of an EMR that's meaningful. 
I reconcile each medication, noting every single pill
Except for controlled substances, I electronically refill
I check for interactions for each single drug I may prescribe
And allergies to medications that my patients may describe.
I take blood pressure, weight and height, and calculate their BMI
And check the box that says I told them if it is too low or high.
The system plots a growth chart I don't need to do it manually
I ask each patient's smoking status and update it annually.
I keep a current and updated patient diagnosis list
I send reminders to my patients to prevent appointments missed
I'm typing better than my Mom who once worked in a steno pool
I am a model user of an EMR that's meaningful.
At each encounter's end I print an after visit summary
I'm tracking 14 core objective measurements of quality
Plus 5 of 10 more menu set objectives chosen just for me
Will this improve the care I give or is it just frivolity? 
It does not matter, 'cause my data pretty soon will be online
And patients who can see it will be judging me in no short time
Deciding if I am a doctor who provides them decent care
Based only on the numbers that the CMS report puts there.
It's been 5 years since I have looked a patient straight into the eyes
Without my finger on the keys or else a laptop on my thighs
Though I have carpel tunnel syndrome, trigger thumb and shoulder pull,
I am a model user of an EMR that's meaningful.

We are all still trying to figure that one ourselves:) This is done to promote the doctor’s new book at Harvard Medical, Your Medical Minds from Dr. Jerome Goodman. This is so funny in Colbert style. He talks about the patient adding their values. Where do I get my medications…from Canadian fake Viagra stores…medicine is not black and white. Colbert says he needs a second opinion via either Twitter or Wikipedia. This doctor works up at Beth Israel in Boston where we I cover a lot of material from Dr. Halamka, the CIO of the medical center and Harvard Medical at the Quack. BD

The Annoying Orange Discovers a Different Kind of Apple-An Iphone That Can’t Be Juiced (Video-humor)
This is just so funny and if you have not seen the Annoying Orange, it is annoying 
but funny. It’s time for good humor post and here this fits! Normally the orange sits around and talks with other fruits and vegetables in the kitchen to include real apples and this is an encounter of a different kind. There’s actually a game now available as well with the Annoying Orange.
The annoying fruit kind of reminds us to eat healthy in a fun way. I love the laugh of this guy.

The Annoying Orange game demonstrated here…I like this as it uses real surroundings like kitchen cabinets. I think it kind of gives off a subliminal message without being one of those over absorbing “Shell answer man” type of things we see out there today. He wants to play with a BlackBerry, but it’s getting a recharge and couldn’t play with the Orange. The series is just too funny and there’s a ton more of their videos on YouTube. BD
