Spineandsports

Our spine is the mainstay of the upper body. Enables us to keep straight, bend or twist. It also covers and protects the spinal cord. The nerves in our column branch to the rest of our body.

The spine is made up of vertebrae. At the top are the cervical vertebrae. There are 7 and are referred to as C1-C7, starting from the top. The seventh vertebra joins the first thoracic vertebra. Here are 12 that run in the back and provide a place for ribs join. These vertebrae are referred to as T1 to T12 from top to bottom. The bottom of our back has five lumbar vertebrae. These are numbered L1 to L5. Below that is a group of 5 fused vertebrae called the sacrums, which are located between the bones in the bottom of the column. And finally comes the coccyx or tailbone, another group of fused vertebrae.

The spinal cord is moved to the center of the column, and each of the vertebrae, nerves branch out through foramina openings to the body.

Acupressure point to boost the immune system

Try this exercise every day, It strengthens the kidneys and the immune system, and boosts vitality.

The location of this acupressure point is on the lower back two finger widths on either side of the spine, approximately level with the waist. So that is in the centre of the back.

Fold your hands into the shape of a fist. Now bring your hands behind your back and using the knuckle of the hands use a rolling action around either side of the spine.

Try not to press too hard, do this for about one minute, once each day.
