Low women live longer - researchers

Specialists from the College of Medicine Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University compared the genome of Ashkenazi Jews aged 100 year

Israeli scientists have found a gene variant that is responsible for the increased life expectancy
It was found that carriers of this gene are women with below-average growth.

It was found that the centenarians and their children were more frequent mutations of the receptor for insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), which participates in the regulation of growth, development and differentiation of cells and tissues. It is reported MedicInform.Net

Mutation carriers had violated the process of binding the cells with IGF-1, which was accompanied by increased levels of this substance in the blood by 37%, researchers reported. Scientists have also noted that women who are carriers of the mutant gene, were on average 2.5 cm below the participants from the control group.

According to experts, in practice, this discovery confirms the view that growth hormone injections as an anti-aging drugs used in the U.S. (and elsewhere), can be dangerous, since people with low levels of growth hormone live longer. Thus, the rejection of injections of growth hormone may increase life expectancy, scientists explained.
